It’s Scary Going To The Gym

Does this sound familiar?

You feel unfit and out of condition, your clothes are getting tighter, and the things you used to love to wear aren’t fitting as well as they should do. In fact, you can’t button some of them up!

You look in the mirror and you’re embarrassed by what’s there, staring back at you, and you’re dreading the approach of summer and holiday time on the beach.

You know you need to go to the gym and eat more healthily, but you just can’t seem to get there.

The thought of going to that place where all those fit looking people are fills you with fear.

You’re not alone.

It’s a common misconception that gyms are full of fit people. What’s more accurate is that it’s full of people wanting to get fitter and healthier.

At some point in their life everyone has walked into a local gym and seen people in there who are fitter than them.

That’s never going to change.

There will always be someone who’s in better condition than you. And that goes for all of the personal training team here too.

What’s also a misconception is that you think people are staring at you when you’re there. That they’re thinking about you and making an opinion about who you are, what condition you’re in and what you’re doing.

They’re not.

But, it’s daunting isn’t it?

That’s why being part of a fitness family like Masters Fitness is so much better.

There’s no judgement.

Instead, we support you.

We motivate you and everyone else to reach your individual goals, and to do that in a purposeful and actionable way.

You’ve probably though at some point: “Nah, I can’t go to the gym because of how unfit I am.”

OR

“I can’t hire a personal trainer because they’ll push me too hard: I’ll fail and then I’d be sooo embarrassed!”

If one of those thoughts has gone through your head then what I would say is:

The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with a single step. Once you get into the habit of working out with a fitness trainer or going to classes or the gym, and you see the progress, you’ll wonder what you were so worried about in the first place.

We Won’t Shout At You

Lots of people associate personal trainers with army drill sergeants, which is simply not true.

We don’t shout and scream at you.

Our sole purpose is to empower, educate and inspire you to make positive steps to achieving your goal.

Usually, this starts with simple steps that you can achieve like drinking more water and seeing us for some training sessions on a regular basis.

So, don’t let fear get the better of you.

Here’s a quote from After Earth (Will Smith): “Fear is not real, it is an illusion created in our minds of thoughts of things that have not, and may not even happen. That is insanity.”

So, don’t be afraid of what might happen. Instead, think about the excitement around the potential of what you could achieve.
